This original clutch sprocket (carrier), in practice also known as the inner carrier of the clutch segments, is a structural element of the centrifugal chain clutch (clutch) on STIHL chainsaws. Its primary technical function is to carry and position the plates (brake segments) and their return springs. This part screws directly onto the thread of the output end of the crankshaft and rotates fixed together with it. When the engine reaches operating speed, centrifugal force spreads the plates towards the clutch drum, and this sprocket bears the entire transmission of torque and the mechanical pressure. As an original OEM part, it is produced with precise balance tolerances in order to eliminate vibrations that can damage the crankshaft bearings. During installation and overhaul of the clutch, be sure to clean the thread on the crankshaft of residues of old adhesives, sawdust and corrosion. Remember that the crankshaft has a left-hand thread at this point (unscrewing clockwise, screwing in the opposite direction). Tighten the clutch sprocket with the dedicated wrench and gradually, following the factory-specified torques. Before mounting the plates and springs, check whether there are traces of seizing or overheating (bluish colour of the metal alloy) on the seats of the sprocket. Clean all contact surfaces and joint elements before assembly, but leave them completely dry – grease or oil is never applied to the clutch, to prevent slipping.
